Bielerhohe to Jamtal Hutte
July 30, 2007 Rain and low clouds this morning delayed our start. The weather was supposed to improve so we waited until 10:00a before starting for Jamtal Hutte. It was still raining lightly as walked along beside the Silvrettasee for a short distance before turning and heading up the valley toward a basin at about 2450m – 8038ft. From there it was up a steep talus slope in light snowy conditions to the Getschnerscharte (2839m – 9314ft) (12:00 noon) in blowing snow and wind. The visibility was about 150 feet as we crossed the pass and began our 750m – 2461ft descent toward Jamtal Hutte. The first several meters of the descent were steep and a little slippery due to the snow but this soon eased and in another hour and forty five minutes we reached Jamtal Hutte (2165m – 7103ft).
