Jamtal Hutte to Heidelberger Hutte
July 31, 2007 Left the Jamtal hut at 7:30a on a clear cold morning. There was some ice on the rocks as we headed up the valley behind the hutte toward Kronenjoch and the Heidelberger Hutte which is back in Switzerland. We followed the stream on a marked trail up through several hanging valleys. After climbing over 800m – 262ft we reached Kronenjoch (2880m – 9449ft) (9:50a) and began our descent into Switzerland and the Fembertal. There was a small glacier on the Swiss side and we descended it and joined a well-marked path leading down the valley. This path soon descended steeply northwestward, then eased after passing a small tarn. About two hours from Kronenjoch we reached the Heidelberger Hutte (2285m – 7497ft) (12:00 noon) and sat on the veranda enjoying a lot of very good beer.
