Payerhutte to Bolzano
July 1, 2008 Left the Payerhutte for Solden at 7:30a. The mists were rising around the hutte and along the route making the hike seem like something out The Lord of the Rings. The trail led back down the ridge to the Passo della Tabaretta and then across a moderately exposed cliffy stretch leading to a short section crossing a bridge over a small cleft in the ridge. From the bridge the trail continued across the steep rock slope to the Barenjoch (2871m – 9419ft), a small pass which cut the ridge and then led steeply down the other side into the Solden valley. After a steep but short descent I came to the Tabarettahutte (2558m – 8392ft) which sits on the edge of another steep section of the trail. After a short rest at the Tabaretta Hutte I continued the descent and traversed over to the top station of the chairlift down to Solden. After a short chilly ride down the chair lift I arrived in Solden (1867m – 6125ft). I had lunch in Solden and then took the bus to Bolzano.
